Vollständige Ausgabe in stattlichem Handeinband der eit: Halbpergament / HPgt im Format 42 x 31 cm mit goldgeprägtem Rückentitel auf Lederschildchen und Kopffarbschnitt, in neuerem handgefertigten Schuber, dieser mit Pergament und mehrfarbigem Marmorpapier bezogen. 216 Seiten auf kräftigem Velinpapier, mit 80 Tafelabbildungen. - "Warum handgebunden? - Die wesentlichsten Vorzüge des guten Handbandes sind: Die einzelnen Druckbögen werden mit der Hand nach dem Schriftspiegel gefalzt. Die Bogenränder werden dadurch zwar ungleich, aber das Satzbild steht gerade. Um infolge der ungleichen Ränder ein späteres zu starkes Beschneiden mit der Maschine zu vermeiden, werden die Bogen einzeln, vorne und unten, mit der Pappschere auf ein Mittelmaß rauh beschnitten. Dadurch wird der Druckrand weitestgehend geschont. Als erste und letzte Lage wird dem Buche zum Schutze eine leere Papierlage hinzugefügt, welche mit einem feinen Leinen- oder echten Japanpapierfalz versehen ist. Geheftet wird der Handband nach sorgfältiger Auswahl des Heftzwirnes auf echten erhabenen oder aufgedrehten flachen Bünden und auf Pergamentriemchen (welche beim Pergamentbande durch den Rücken gezogen werden). Als Einbandmaterial kommen sumachgares, lichtechtes Saffian, Kalbleder, vereinzelt auch Rindsleder, ferner naturelles und weißes Schweinsleder sowie Kalbspergament zur Verwendung. Ein mit der Hand hergestelltes, dazupassendes Überzugpapier sowie Handvergoldung oder Blinddruck am Rücken ergänzen das Werk nach außen. Ein solcher Einband entspricht allen Anforderungen, die an einen Gebrauchsband gestellt werden können." Piatti foderati con belle carte marmorizzate coeve. Qualche piccola e lievissima macchiolina di foxin al foglio di sguardia, ininfluente, e per il restoesemplare in ottime condizioni di conservazione. Completo. Prima edizione di questa importante monografia dedicata all opera del celebre pittore e scultore italiano, Antonio Canova (Possagno, 1º novembre 1757 Venezia, 13 ottobre 1822) che fu il massimo esponente della corrente del Neoclassicismo. Vicino alla teorie di Mengs e Winckelmann, Canova fu il più celebre scultore del suo tempo tanto che gli commissionarono opere gli Asburgo, i Borbone, la corte pontificia, Napoleone, sino ad arrivare dalla nobiltà veneta, romana e russa. Il volume qui presentato è di notevole importanza per ricostruire la genesi artistica dell opera di Canova. Ogni magnifica tavola è seguita da una descrizione e commento dell opera ad opera del noto poeta, prosatore e giornalista Domanico Anzelmo (1803-1890). Le tavole sono di altissimo livello incise su carta di ottima qualità da Revel su disegno di Canova. Molti esemplari dell opera presentano fioriture, per fortuna, assenti dalla nostra copia. Prima edizione in ottime condizioni di conservazione.
