Although Mount Roskill did not achieve borough status until the late 1940s it was at that stage a well established suburb of Auckland city. By the 1980s the borough population exceeded 33,000 --- an example of the explosive growth greater Auckland was experiencing, and continues to do so. This illustrated history progresses from the early days of European settlement in the 1800s, using photographs from many sources, including family collections. Format is album style with extended captions. 63 pages, b/w and colour photographs throughout (many multi illustration per page.) Dark blue hard covers with gilt crest front lower right, narrow fade band lower edges, otherwise VG+, internally excellent, no inscriptions. Colour pictorial DJ VG with faded area lower front.

A record mainly of the first year of WWII from the RAF viewpoint, but also including the Battle of Britain and the first raids on Berlin. Text confined to 12 pages covering the campaigns of Coastal, Bomber and Fighter commands. The main focus is photographic with 102 excellent photogravure pictures showing aircraft, the campaign in France, Battle of Britain, North Africa, all the RAF commands, maintenance, training, manufacturing, WAAFs, Allied aid, aerial photography, pilots and other staff. A great collection of historic photos in action and on the ground. Light blue hard covers heavily faded spine, adjacent spine at front and and lower front, light foxing vertical page edge FFEP, title page, text block otherwise excellent.
