Hard cover. Book Club Edition. Illustarted paper over boards. Horizontal format: 9x7in. Audience: Children/juvenile. Winner of the Christopher Award, this work by master historic panoramic illustrator Peter Spier brings to life the folksong that begins, "I've got a mule and her name is Sal.Fifteen years on the Erie Canal". New York's water transportation route began construction in 1817 in Rome, NY, a swampy and forested wilderness. In 1825, with continuing construction east and west across upstate New York, its route was completed "from Albany to Buffalo", without the aid of "professional" engineers. Canal boats were pulled by attached rope from shoreline parallel roads by draft animals. Elevation locks had been built into place where needed. The last 2 pages offer a history for parents and teachers, and the music score with lyrics for the song. Spier's end papers depict canal scenes over each of the 4 seasons. His details honor the practical problem-solving engineering behind its success, and the economic growth of the upstate New York regions from frontier to village provision centers. The canal operated for 100 years, abolishing tolls in 1882, and having seen a major rebuilding after the first 50 years. Very good. No dust jacket as issued. Signed by previous owner. Prior owner name markered out. Light edge wear. Slight top end spine wobble. Clean inside pages. Sticker residue over preprinted bookplate space. Children's Choice Book Club Edition, Macmillan. 1 0.0.

Soft Cover. Condición: Fine. Perkins, Mike; Bermejo, Lee (Artwork) Ilustrador. First Edition. Stated first printing. 6 3/4" x 10" design. Slight wear. Coated pages, fine. Protected in clear sleeve. Promotional artwork, variant cover sketches, pencil + ink work, optional cover sketches, and character sketches. Featuring never before seen art from THE STAND: CAPTAIN TRIPS interior artist Mike Perkins and cover artist Lee Bermejo, this free-yeah, you heard us-sketchbook provides your first look at September 2008's landmark release adapting Stephen King's seminal novel! Writer Robert Aguirre-Sacasa, along with Perkins and Bermejo, offer exclusive commentary about the art of THE STAND, allowing fans to go behind the scenes of one of 2008's most anticipated series! A devastating flu escapes from its containment in a military biowarfare lab, killing most of the population of the United States, and by implication, the world. When a man escapes from a biological testing facility, he sets in motion a deadly domino effect, spreading a mutated strain of the flu that will wipe out 99% of humanity within a few weeks. The survivors who remain are scared, bewildered, and in need of a leader. Two emerge--Mother Abagail, the benevolent 108-year-old woman who urges them to build a community in Boulder, Colorado; and Randall Flagg, the nefarious "Dark Man," who delights in chaos and violence. This promotional "sketchbook" deepens the reader's experience of SK's "The Stand". 20 pages. Insured post. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. Book.
