Acerca de

From the Author:

OUR HUMBLE AND NOT SO PLEASANT BEGINNINGS

boyfriendsgonebad was inspired by our own trials and tribulations. The year began for both of us with the completely unexpected ends to our long-term relationships. Engagements were broken off, new women were already in the wings and a torrent of emotions erupted: devastation, envy, anger, frustration, loneliness, despair. You know: you’ve been there.

Individually, we exhausted every avenue of help available to us: ·

We listened to the advice of friends and family until their responses seemed clichéd, predictable and useless: “Men are like buses. You miss one and there’s another one right behind it”. Thanks, but I was run over by the bus. I’m afraid of buses now. ·

We read feel-good self-help books until we could have written them ourselves: “You can’t find true love until you learn to love yourself.” I think they’ve missed the point. I’m not the problem here. ·

We sought professional therapy until the cutesy analogies sent us spinning: “Are you more like a baked potato or a french fry?” Actually, I’m feeling a little mashed right now.

Nothing worked. We were hopelessly inconsolable until we learned to share our stories, and when we did we discovered humor.

Laughter was curiously absent from all of these standard prescriptions-for-recovery. Despite the fact that every woman’s wise advice ended with the same maxim—“One day you’ll look back and laugh at this!”—laughing at it right now was one thing that was not encouraged. Together, we learned to laugh at ourselves. We coined our own phrases and made a scrapbook to match. To every painful experience we attached a humorous axiom, until eventually the pain itself invoked laughter. As a result we had the most fantastic year of our lives. Who would have thought? We have already shared our whimsical wisdom with dozens of women who have benefited as much as we have. This is our way of sharing it with many more. Get ready to laugh and get over it!
