Signed 1st Edition, Cape 1982. 248pp. Flat signed by author to title page. Very good clean tight sound, shaken, firmly held in joints and hinges, no bookplate, front free endpaper with 2 very very pale smudges of foxing and fine ownership inscription with name and address, no further marks of any kind. In bright gilt lettered grey cloth with one vertical crease to gently rubbed spine. Also very good original unclipped colour pictorial dustwrapper, happily in this case without the usual age toning, featuring Mon Mohan’s oil painting, 'reproducing a view of the artist's home, Penkerrig, by the late-eighteenth-century Radnorshire painter Thomas Jones'. Signed first Edition of this haunting tale set in the Black Mountains and sold most appropriately here at Richard Booth's bookshop in the famous Hay-on-Wye booktown, in the foothills of the Black Mountains. Reduced due to inscription. A delight for reader and collector alike. N° de ref. de la librería 100080068

Acerca de

The tale of identical twin brothers who toil on the family farm in the wild and vibrant land of Wales and experience the oddities, wonders, and tragedies of human experience.

Bruce Chatwin's fascination with nomads and wanderlust represents itself in reverse in On the Black Hill, a tale of two brothers (identical twins) who never go anywhere. They stay in the farmhouse on the English-Welsh border where they were born, tilling the rough soil and sleeping in the same bed, touched only occasionally by the advance of the 20th century. Smacking of a Welsh Ethan Frome, Chatwin evokes the lonely tragedies of farm life, and above all the vibrant land of Wales.
