Descripción

film-stills; Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall; 236 pages; Large format paperback in glossy illustrated covers. 1st edition, simultaneous with the hard cover 1st trade issue. This copy very warmly inscribed with effusive thanks for inspiration, guidance, etc, to Fred[erick S. ] Clarke, pioneer publisher of the horror film magazine, Cinefantastique. Glossy pictorial covers are bright and clean; no marks aside from the lengthy authorial inscription. Just mild edge and surface handling. Gagne inscribed this copy to Clarke on the half title page and dated the inscription 5/25/87. The inscription takes up the lower 1/2 of the page, below the title, and reads partly thus: "To Fred Clarke/ You are responsible for this book in more ways than I can count. Thank you for your inspiration, guidance, cooperation, and support over the years, but most of all for teaching me how to do it . " Clarke's Cinefantastique published Gagne's earlier articles on Romero's films, which became the basis for the extended book length treatment, the standard work on Romero's Zombie films. Provenance of ths inscription is available. An unusual and significant association copy, very warmly inscribed to the late pioneer of publishing material on the under recognized genres of film fantasy and horror. VG++; Signed by Author. Acerca de

From Publishers Weekly:

Gagne, a producer and director of children's films and a film and fantasy writer, incorporate into this survey articles published originally in Cinefantastique magazine on the life and career of Pittsburgh independent film director George Romero. Romero began making movies with 8mm. equipment at the age of 14, later studied theater and art at Carnegie Tech and then formed Latent Image to produce commercials and industrial films. After his first feature, Night of the Living Dead, came sequels, his collaboration with Stephen King on Creepshow and, currently, the syndicated Tales from the Darkside series. Gagne reveals various special effects and makeup tricks used by Romero ("arms and legs taken from mannequins . . . were covered with a blistered 'flesh' made from Silly Putty") and introduces many of Romero's friends and associates. Combining their memories with Romero's own insights, the author creates a biographical portrait that captures the director's drive and determination and "the spirit of the troupe" that works on his films. The book includes a listing of films, videocassettes, novelizations and sound-track recordings, and features eight pages of color photos and 100 black-and-white shots.
