Acerca de

Sinopsis:

‘Have you ever wanted to break free, set off on a wild, grand quest? If you have ever wanted to go...and didn’t...come with me now. With a minimum of preparation I set out, I planned as I went, and I didn’t stop until I had circled the entire world.’ Join Annette, the first woman to drive solo around the planet, in a glorified delivery van called ‘The Wish Mobile’. Share her experiences as she explores the caves of Slovenia. Swims in the crystal water of Croatia and nearly drives off the top of Mount Olympus in Greece. Leave the European continent behind, enter Turkey, Romania, Moldova and the Ukraine. Drive across the vast steppes of Southern Russia into Kazakhstan. Visit a Kazakh family in Cantui, a small village on the border of Kazakhstan and China. Learn how to drink horse milk beer and have a banja. Then camp in the Charyn Canyon under the full moon. Before heading into China . Here the driving gets more and more abominable. Dogs, chained to posts outside muddy hovels, bark and howl at the Wish Mobile. The trucks, busses crunch gears, and burn tires for position, the tuk-tuks dodge and dive, bicycle riders balance on the knife-edge of destruction, but nobody gives an inch. And then head to the USA where the drivers seem to be wallowing in boredom in their air-conditioned SUVs. To liven up their driving experience they multitask behind the wheel: drink coffee, talk on the phone, do their make-up, and read the paper, all this while driving down the highway. When Annette throws in her singular style of driving, which by now is a daredevil mix of every outrageous driving trick in the world, she soon has those sharing the road with her in apoplectic fits of rage. From the comfort of your favorite chair, you can travel with the author as she. discovers, that to travel alone is to have freedom ,adventure, independence, but also loneliness and alienation. To travel alone is not just to learn to know the world, but to learn to know yourself. It is to be silent and willing to allow the unknown to plant a seed of change in your mind. To travel alone is to develop a deep awareness of your own ignorance and insignificance and to become aware of the grand splendour of the planet that harbours us and the universe of which we are a small part. Genre; Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, Long Way Round , Eat Love Pray
