Descripción G. P. Putnam's Sons, NY, 1940. hardcover. Estado de conservación: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: No Dust Jacket. First Edition; First Printing. (boards lightly soiled) Decommisssioned from University Rare Book Collection- bookplate on front endpaper. Handwritten letter signed by the author laid-in. With the letterhead of the Harvard Club, the letter reads "Dear Miss Watkins, Here's a small item Earle Balch helped me put together. It has had a succes d'estime which is probably more than it deserved and is better than being absolutley "still-born". It is really short. I thought that if you wanted to glance through it before Monday we would be that much further ahead when we met at 11: 30. I have turned down the page at The Fight. Please remeber me to Roger and tell him he's a grand guy and ought to be writing up the bonus aspect ofthe present conflict in this country. Only he must not do it because nobody would listen to him. That topic is taboo. Yours sincerely, Chanler Chapman." Roger appears to refer to Roger Burlingame, who gave this book to the University as a gift. Chapman was the basis for the title character in Saul Bellow's "Henderson the Rain King". ; Handwritten letter signed by the author laid-in.
