"In 1951, our parents, Wadek {Walter} and Traudi {Gertrude} Krawczyk, and daughters Marianne and Ursula left a Europe ravaged by WWII. Like many immigrants before and after them, they came to the United States in the hope of finding opportunities for themselves and their family. Leaving family behind is often difficult for those who emigrate and this was particularly so for our mother. She was very close to her parents {our Oma and Opa}, particularly to her 'Mutti', who Mom often described as her best friend. Our mother wrote the letters in this book to her parents and they reflect Mom'e desire to maintain their closeness by sharing many of the details of her new life in a new country. As our mother sent her letters home, little did she know that Oma was saving them and that they would be returned to our mother many years later. In the last years of her life, Mom was rereading the now faded and fragile lettlers that she had written so many years before on very thin Airmail paper. Since the letters were written in German, Mom began to translate them to share with her family. She died before translations were completed. Ursula completed the translations. It's not often that one gets such an 'in the moment' view of one's family history. The early years, in particular, give us such a good picture of the challenges and joys faced by our parents in building a new life in America. What we see are two people who worked so hard, were committed and loving parents and generous friends. These letters are a tangible version of the legacy of love and memories.from our parents to all of us." This book has 210 pages and is illustrated throughout. Overall, this is a FINE copy of this VERY SCARCE title. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. N° de ref. de la librería 064604
