Descripción

Purple woven cloth. Folio. First edition. 343 & 14 pp. Original cardboard slipcase. Text in Japanese and English. Illustrated in black & white and color. From the time when the capital of Japan was transferred to Kyoto, Japanese culture gradually became free from the strong influence of T'ang China felt in the proceeding periods, and began to create its own unique mode of expression in the arts. Japanese crafts have been primarily produced in Kyoto and its vicinity by traditional techniques, and their fine designs reflect the beautiful natural scenery of these areas. It has become clear that Japanese classical literature has played an important role in the adaptation of these natural scenes to their use as design motifs for the arts and crafts. This volume is a recreation of the exhibition of craft works in the special exhibition of the same title held at the Kyoto National Museum in the fall of 1978. The text consists of introductory essays in English by Yoshi Shirahata and others, a descriptive list of the book's illustrations in English, a rather lengthy section printed in Japanese and then a 233 page section of photographic plates (of which 33 pages are in color) of items in the exhibition. The objects illustrated include cosmetic boxes, garment screens, Noh costumes, fabrics, mirrors, tea utensils, inkstone boxes, incense burners, sword mountings, daggers, book stands and much more. In terms of condition this is a very good copy with some light fading to the spine. The slipcase is in very good condition with some corner wear. Foreign postage extra on this large and very heavy book. N° de ref. de la librería 812
