250 x 250 mm, 203 pp, with b&w illustrations throughout, pages of colour plates, genealogical tables, maps, bibliography, index, pictorial end-papers. Previous owner's name in ink by the upper edge of the front free end-paper (with ink splodge further down on the same page). Page edges lightly foxed. Blue cloth boards, silverfished towards the edges, gilt spine titles and gilt decoration at the centre of the front board, in dust-jacket with Joan Bognuda illustration. The jacket has a stain affecting the spine and the upper section of its front panel. Internally, the book is clean and complete. Although the book traces the history of the Chirnside family from their Scottish forebears to the 1970s, it is essentially the story of Thomas and Andrew, and of the 'empire' they built up. The result of extensive research of records, documents and first-hand recollections, this is a comprehensive account of the lives and achievements of a pioneering, pastoralist family.
