** NOT EX-LIBRARY ** CLEAN AND STAIN-FREE ** One of the rarest of Mr. Lincoln's 1st Editions. With 339 pages, plus 4 full-page drawings by Howard Heath on glossy paper. True 1st Edition, 1st Printing, with 1911 on the title page and the number (1) on the last page at the end of the text. The author has inscribed the book on one of the blank rear endpapers as follows: "Lady Dagmar: I am sure this book will throw out a bushel of sunshine and cheer you up oh so much. It was a favorite of mine." While the inscription is not signed, we have other examples of Mr. Lincoln's handwriting before us and have handled his signature in the past, and this appears a clear match to his distinctive style of writing. This is a clean, sound and solid copy, very well-bound in heavy-duty brown cloth-covered boards lettered in white on the front and the spine, and with an oval Howard Heath drawing inset on the front. The book is quite clean, bright, and stain-free, square and straight, firm and tight in its binding, no pages loose, missing, or torn. The hinges are sound and undamaged, the corners sharp and unbumped. The cloth binding shows virtually no wear, just a touch of light rubbing and a bit of shelf-use at the spine ends, no tears, no fraying, no worn spots. The white lettering on the spine is a bit chipped but still legible. The lettering on the front is on the whole intact. The illustration on the front board is lightly, only occasionally rubbed, but remains sharp and very legible. The pages show only the slightest hint of age-toning, and all are unsoiled, all text and drawings are crisp, sharp, and extremely legible. Aside from a previous owner's name discretely rubber-stamped at the top of the blank front pastedown the author's inscription, there is no writing, underlining, highlighting, or markings of any such kind in the book.
