Acerca de

Wishful Wedding: A Pocketful of Pride is a children's picture book that delves into the topic of marriage equality for same gender partners. Told through the eyes of a small child, this prevalent issue is explored using loving words and beautiful illustrations.

"Papa's sister is getting married today! Daddy and I get ready, a flower girl I am. We witness in delight and giggle with glee but deep down in our hearts, we're sad you see? When will my fathers be able to wed? I can only hope for change, in the future ahead."

From the Author:

LGBT equality has always been very much part of my beliefs and I am often frustrated when I am confronted by exasperating homophobic news. My agenda however is geared towards children of same gender families and how difficult that must be growing up in a society and community where it is not often understood and sometimes still considered a stigma. It is unjust, especially when they have parents who have made a conscious decision to raise a child in a loving family environment.

A recent divorce prompted the writing chapter of my life. I started writing to show my then 4 year old daughter that we could face this life challenge together and I did so through loving words and beautiful illustrations. Stories with a message for children from same gender families just became a natural extension of my writing. I felt the issues of marriage equality needed to be highlighted in a gentle manner whilst also reminding the generations to come that this was once upon a time an incredulous issue we had to face. More importantly, I believe that we need more LGBTQ literature for younger children so they know no different and that they will grow up in a world where diverse family units just simply exist. I long for the day when we don't have to associate pride with the words "tolerance" and "acceptance". We need more exposure and education in our schools, libraries and media. Our children can pave the way for the future.
