Descripción

In his early days of wandering in Australia's remote and wild country Ion Idriess -- long before he became an established author -- penned extended notes on various experiences and incidents. Reviewing these many years later he decided some could be the basis of a book of short "stories." In "The Wild North" there are 14 of these and while the majority are set in Queensland others cross state borders, are in NSW, three relate to his WWI experiences in the Middle East, some in the Coral Sea, New Guinea and the north of Western Australia. The book is probably the most graphic illustration of the enormous amount of travel Idriess undertook, before motor cars were in common use and air travel; decidely uncommon. And what is more -- each tale is engrossing. First edition of 1960, 229 pages, 24 b/w photos including frontis, a location map introduces each "chapter." Red hard covers with gilt spine titles are VG+ with hint fade to spine extremities, retirement village stamp top FFEP lightly crossed with colour pen, text block otherwise excellent.
