First and only edition of her rarest book. [24] leaves. Folio size. Bound in quarter green cloth over decorated and gilt-lettered, paper-covered boards. Published by Frederick A. Stokes Company, New York, 1899. Includes 12 full-page color plates of wild flowers. Names of flowers on preceding leaves, but no texts. -- The book's covers are somewhat darkened with age, showing a bit of wear at the edges and on the spine. Moderately frayed spine ends. All flower plates are clean, bright & vivid. -- Born Mary Ellis Ryan, Mrs. Rowan (1848-1922) first painted wildflowers, insects, birds and butterflies in her native Australia, but won international awards and lived mainly abroad after the death of her husband. Besides this book of facsimiles of her water colors, she also had 3 other books published in the U.S.A. by Stokes, all to texts by Alice Lounsberry. Size: Folio - over 12" - 15" tall.
