A very good FIRST EDITION of Hemingway's best novel, FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS, published in 1940. It tells the story of Robert Jordan, a young American in the International Brigades attached to a republican guerrilla unit during the Spanish Civil War. As a dynamiter, he is assigned to blow up a bridge during an attack on the city of Segovia. Hemingway biographer Jeffrey Meyers writes that the novel is regarded as one of Hemingway's best works. This FIRST EDITION bears the 'A' on the publishers page indicating FIRST EDITION, FIRST PRINTING. The dust jacket is a First Edition jacket but not the first printing jacket. All in all a very good copy of this landmark work by one of the giants of American literature. Check out the photos. N° de ref. de la librería ABE-9668429093
