Sinopsis:

Book by Taillon, Ruth

From the Back Cover:

The Easter Rebellion of 1916 was a watershed in Irish history, setting in motion a chain of events which culminated in the foundation of the modern Irish state. In the eighty years since the Rising there have been many books written on those events. Despite that, the story of the women in the Rising has been forgotten. Until now. The Women of 1916 tells for the first time the story of the Irish rebellion from the point of view of the women involved. Drawing on a wealth of contemporary accounts, it shows how the women rebels took part in virtually every aspect of the work before and during the insurrection, and shared the sorrows and deprivations which followed. The book names almost 200 women and gives details - often in their own words - of their involvement in this historic event. The 1916 Easter Rising was the crucible in which the Irish nationalist movement was forged. It was a movement in which women were an essential element. At last, The Women of 1916 brings them out of the footnotes of Irish history.
