The Wheel-Barrow Crys of Europe, in 1748-9
Broadside, oblong folio, engraved by George Bickham, printed one side as issued. In this satirical broadside several great personages are offering various objects for sale in wheel barrows. The centre piece shows the King of France holding a wheel barrow containing Lord Catcart and the Earl of Sussex who were being held hostage pending the settlement of Cape Breton on the western coast of America in Nova Scotia. In the bottom right is the Young Pretender who has abandoned his wheel-barrow which contains fragments of "Drunken Health", "England", "Rise to redress" &c, whilst beside that is a barrow full of soldiers directed to Fribourg where it was proposed the Young Pretender should ntake up residence after he been ordered to leave France as under the terms of the Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle.
