A WONDERFUL COLLECTION! These solidly bound volumes have mildly worn surfaces. Corners are either bumped or nudged and a bit worn through to cardboard. Frontispiece of volume X loose but present. Spines are just slightly darkened. Spinecaps gently folded under with occasional tiny tears and creasing. Only mildly age-tanned. Black lettering framed in red on tan 2.5 x 1" spine labels affixed to dark olive-green, cloth-covered spines. Grey and white mottled-pattern boards. Portrait of selected author to frontis of each volume. Frontis illustrations by John Cecil Clay, Rudolph E. Leppert, and George Brehm. Clean and solid. Volumes are continuously numbered to 2,042 pp with complete index arranged alphabetically by authors. In this complete 10 Volume set are selections from the pen of "this company of fun-makers" as well as many more, including a number by clever women humorists. This collection is made up of "poems, stories, humorous articles, fables, and fairy tales offered for your choice, with subjects as diverse as the styles ; but however the laugh is gained, in whatever fashion the jest is delivered, the laugh-maker is a public benefactor, for laughter is the salt of life, and keeps the whole dish sweet," (foreword). Authors such as Bret Harte, Henry Ward Beecher, James Whitcomb Riley, Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain), Joel Chandler Harris, Thomas Bailey Aldrich and many more. N° de ref. de la librería 71097
