Descripción William Heinemann Ltd., London, 1972. Hardcover. Estado de conservación: Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very good. 1st Edition. The Official Biography of Winston Churchill, initiated by Randolph Churchill but completed by Martin Gilbert, is an epic piece of scholarship about a singularly epic life, comprising eight mammoth main text volumes and - so far - seventeen accompanying document or "Companion" volumes. The eight main text volumes were published between 1966 and 1988. Publication of the Companion volumes continues today. These two volumes accompany the third volume of Churchill's Official Biography and cover the period August 1914 to December 1916, one of the most tumultuous periods of Churchill's career. In 1914 Churchill was the First Lord of the Admiralty, a key Cabinet post in a wartime government. In 1915, after the failure in the Dardanelles and the slaughter at Gallipoli Churchill was scapegoated and forced to resign. 1916 saw Churchill in political exile, serving as a lieutenant colonel leading a battalion in the trenches. Here is the two-volume set of Volume III companion volumes. Both volumes are the British first edition, only printing, fine copies in very good dust jackets. The red cloth bindings are square, tight, and immaculate, with sharp corners, bright spine gilt, and virtually no wear. The contents are crisp, bright, and tight with no spotting and no previous ownership markings. The red-stained top edges retain uniform, deep, unfaded color with no discernible flaws. The dust jackets are unclipped and complete, with absolutely no losses. Both dust jacket spines retain bright, unfaded title print. What prevents these jackets from being fine is light overall toning and soiling to the spines, with fractional wrinkling at the Part 2 spine ends and a few small marks at the Part 2 spine head. The dust jackets are protected in removable, archival quality clear covers. Note that these are large, heavy books and may require additional postage. Bibliographic reference: Zoller A302c. The red cloth bindings are square, clean, and tight with sharp corners, bright gilt, and only trivial wear at the extremities. The contents are crisp, bright, and tight with no spotting and no previous ownership marks. The red stained top edges retain deep, unfaded color, marred only by a few tiny moisture spots to the topstain of each volume. Both dust jackets are unclipped and complete with no losses whatsoever. Both are bright and clean. The Part I dust jacket retains unfaded spine titling and is marred only by faint dampstaining at the spine tail and minor wrinkling at a few edges. The part 2 dust jacket red spine title is faded, but still legible and the jacket has minor wrinkling at the upper edges. The dust jackets are protected in removable archival quality clear covers. Note that these are large, heavy books and may require additional postage. Bibliographic reference: Zoller A302c. Nº de ref. de la librería 001817
