Descripción:

145, [1] pages; Sewn, in contemporary wrappers -- (cream colored paper spine with blue-grey paper covers pasted over). Spine partly eroded, minor damage and areas of loss to the corners of the upper wrapper, and along the bottom edge of the rear wrapper. Somewhat toned and foxed throughout; faint stain to the inner gutter of the front blank leaf and the facing title page. Even so, this is a complete copy of this scarce Pennsylvania German imprint, in its fragile (and unrestored) original binding. The text had first been printed in Frankfort am Main, in 1799. As is stated on the title page, this edition printed in Harrisburg Pennsylvania in 1813 was the first American edition. The printer was John Solomon Wiestling [1787-1842]. There is a subscribers list on pp. [143]-145 -- (with names mostly geographically close to the point of origin, including subscribers in Baltimore, Philadelphia, York, Lebanon, etc.) See OCLC Number: 2466029 (11 locations; copies also at Library Company of Philadelphia, and AAS). Shaw, American bibliography, 29936. Seidensticker, O. First century of German printing in America, p. 183. [The author should not be confused with the Frankfurt vernacular writer and lawyer Friedrich Karl Ludwig Textor (1775-1851)]. Content Notes: Jesus das schönste Muster der Humanität -- An Theone bey dem frühen Tod ihrer Lieblingstochter -- Feyer der Religion -- Weisheit und Güte Gottes -- Krieg und Friede -- Ideen über Fortdauer und Auferstehung.
