Leipzig: F. C. W. Vogel, 1841. Full Leather. 8vo. 275 pages. In German. Frankel was born in Prague and received a talmudic education in Budapest. In 1831 he was appointed the district rabbi of Leimeritz in Austria by the government. He was the first Bohemian rabbi with a secular education and one of the first to preach in German. He later served as the chief rabbi in Dresden and also worked in Berlin. As a theologian he founded the "positivist-historical" school which influenced the Conservative movement in the United States. As a leader of Reform Judaism he advocated for the Prussian government to fully recognize Judaism as a belief system. Throughout his career he was in opposition to many other leaders of the time. In 1851 he founded the Monatsschrift für Geschichte und Wissenschaft des Judenthums. He also worked in the Breslau seminary, where he set the standard for modern rabbinical training (Heller, EJ) .
