Ilustrado com 1 frontispício gravado (vinheta) e 60 litografias coloridas a água-tinta gravadas por J. D. Harding, C. Hullmandel, e W. Westall a partir dos desenhos de E. H. Locker. Obra com magnificas reproduções das pinturas de Edward Hawke Locker obtidas durante a sua permanência em Espanha e intercaladas com a descrição dos locais retratados, das cidades e dos seus percursos, e da história antiga e moderna, sobretudo com a descrição dos momentos vividos durante a Guerra Peninsular. Edward Hawke Locker (1777-1849) nasceu em Kent, estudou em Eton, e em 1823 fundou o Painted Hall Greenwich. Durante as campanhas militares contra Napoleão serviu no cargo de Secretário da frota do Mediterrâneo que desembarcou na Catalunha em 1813 junto com Lord John Russell (a quem dedicou a obra) e esteve em Tarragona, em Zaragoza e na frente norte. Passou por Valladolid, Segóvia, Madrid, Toledo e por toda a costa, tendo chegado a Barcelona vindo de Valência. Binding: a luxurious 20th century full calf (brown morocco) signed by the master bookbinder Frederico de Almeida, very fine tooled and gilt at the spine and folders. Edward Hawke Locker (1777-1849) was born in Kent, studied at Eton, and in 1823 founded the Painted Hall Greenwich. During military campaigns against Napoleon served as Secretary of the Mediterranean. He arrived in Catalonia in 1813 along with Lord John Russell (to whom he dedicated the work) from whom he was bringing dispatches to Wellington. As officer of liaison he passed through Tarragona, Zaragoza and the northern front. He passed also in Valladolid, Segovia, Madrid, Toledo and along the coast, having arrived in Barcelona from Valencia. Later visited Napoleon in May 1814 during his Elba exile. Illustrated with engraved title page (including a vignette) and 60 colored lithographed plates engraved by Harding, Hullmandel and Westall after the author?s drawings.
