All vols half leather and marbled boards with gilt-lettered panelled spine, all labels present, minor scuffing to boards down centre, minor corner bumping, various degrees of paper loss to most edges, otherwise clean and firm. Vol.1 series t.p. + vol. t.p. + xvi + 436, uncut fore- and bottom edges; internally clean and unmarked, slight ingrained dustiness to top edge (as all Volumes). Vol.2 t.p.'s as Vol.1 + ix + 630, uncut fore- and bottom edges; gutter opening between t.p.s but secure, otherwise as Vol.1. Vol.3, t.p.s as Vols 1 & 2 + xiii + 782 + (2, pub. notices and list); gutter opening after p.782 but secure, otherwise as Vols. 1, 2 3. Vol. 4. t.p.'s as Vols 1,2 & 3 + vii + 417, uncut fore- and bottom edges; gutter opening between t.p.s but otherwise as Vols. 1, 2 & 3. Weighs approx 4 kg so allow for significant additional postage outside UK. An attractive copy of this monumental work, VG despite odd faults consistent with age. This 2nd edition published posthumously (author died in 1865). Marlo was an exponent of socialist ideas and this was his major work, though has little immediate impact. 15 cm x 23. 5 cm.
