"The scarlet woman of Wall Street" was the nickname of the four-times bankrupt Erie Railroad Company when in 1939 this able executive was named as a court-appointed trustee; within two years he had got company out of receivership, and in 1941 was named its president, serving in that capacity until 1949, finally leaving the company in a profitable state in 1956. TNS, 1p, 8" X 10½", Cleveland, OH, 1948 February 11. Addressed to L.J. Sylvor. Near fine. On "Erie Railroad Company" letterhead, Woodruff replies stiffly: "This will acknowledge receipt of your cards with the understanding that this signature will not be used for any purpose other than your collection." Nicely signed in blue fountain pen. N° de ref. del artículo 31349
