Twenty reports in matching comb-bound wraps with printed titles and logos 22x28cm. Published by Kuwait University's Journal of the Gulf and Arabian Peninsula Studies in March 1981. Arabic and/or English texts with b/w maps, photos and charts. Good to very good, yellowing, with presentation ink stamps, some underlining and notes. Cooperation at this regional event was part of a wider process with Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and UAE about to form the GCC. Those countries except Oman are represented here along with Iraq. Kuwait University had launched its multidisciplinary Journal in 1975. Kuwait was taking a lead in regional water and marine initiatives, and hosted the first Arabian Gulf Conference on Environment and Pollution in 1982. These rapidly developing nations were aware of growing pressures from population, agriculture and industry on their already scarce water resources. Major issues addressed here include rain, groundwater and desalination, with Saudi Arabia then the world's largest producer of desalted water. Studies are on regional, national and district levels. Reflecting a drive to find homegrown solutions and share best practices, the experts are primarily from regional universities and ministries.
