A near fine set of pamphlets which each number sixteen pages, no. 4 has a handwritten note on the front cover and no. 13 is lacking. Each pamphlet contains numbers of optimistic quotations. "The Society of Trotty Veck messengers was founded in 1916 by two young men--two messengers of cheer--who were obliged to live in the mountains but who believed that the only way to conquer mountains is to climb--and climb cheerfully. These little books are still being published up in the mountains by the surviving one of the two young men." (Inside cover of all message pamphlets.) Trotty Veck was an optimistic messenger in Charles Dickens "The Chimes." Were these pamphlets given to the many TB patients lodged in sanitoriums in the Adirondacks? Size: 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall. Descripción de la librería: The Chatham Bookseller began in 1968, and, in 1970, opened a store at its present location in Madison, New Jersey. The store contains over 10,000 books and 80 subjects, and favors good used books and good literature over popular books and bestsellers. The store carries hardcover and paperbacks. Our Internet business began in 2001. The approximately 4,000 Internet books and pamphlets are kept on the premises, but cannot be viewed as a whole. However, we can show and sell individual titles upon request. If you can call ahead, it would be appreciated. Unless you have called ahead, we cannot show Internet books on Sundays. We appreciate all of our customers and try to serve them well and fulfill their special needs.
