A Tribute of Flowers To the Memory of Mother, by John McCoy, M.D., and Revised and Enlarged by D.H. Wever, was published by The Home Book Company, Chicago and Kansas City, in 1892. Not an ex-library copy, this 120-year-old, 504-page, approximately 5 1/4" X 7 3/4" offering is in G condition. There is some yellowing of text's pages, naturally, and the book's binding, in general, is somewhat fragile due to age and the presence of the original cover boards and spine cloth, after all. "Handle With Care", at least to a degree, might be prudent advice here, Reader. There is webbing/separation observed between front, and back, endpapers. If not the case I would have rated this offering at a higher level for its overall decent shape at age 120. This homage to "Mother" is presented in five distinct parts/sections, and in the process covers the vast range of emotions felt by mothers, past and present, from boundless joy to inconsolable grief. Part One, Mother's Love, features such titles as "A Mother's Farewell To Her Daughter" and "I'm Frightened in the Dark"; Part Two, Mother's Death, titles like "A Father To His Motherless Children" and "The Old Armchair"; Part Three, Mother's Grave, such features as "At the Sepulcher" and "My Stricken Heart"; Part Four, Mother's Home Beyond, such pieces as "Crossing Over" and "The Angel of the House"; and, Part Five, Heart Echoes, titles such as "A Vanishing Dream" and "The Road To Wisdom". There are dozens upon dozens of mostly brief poems and pieces of prose contained within this loving tribute. SPECIAL NOTE: Sprinkled throughout the book are over two dozen charming, period black and white, almost all full page Drawings, by artists such as Trentin, H.L. Taylor, and the staff of Blomgren Bros. Co., along with frequent Decorations, by Artist Unknown. Certainly a large helping of Americana, circa the late 19th century, this is the type or kind of period book, in terms of style and its actual physical appearance, that just isn't produced/made any more. But, it expresses so many thoughts regarding mothers and motherhood that will never go out of style. Thanks very much!!. N° de ref. del artículo 005859
