Peppered with more than 30 delightful black & white illustrations by Hazel B. Ives, this 1930s health textbook was aimed at promoting physical activity in 4th grade children. Chapters show the path to physical fitness through regular skills practice, good physical & dental hygiene, nutrition, posture, sleep habits, safety, outdoor exercise, the avoidance of alcohol & tobacco, and "Sportsmanship in the Home". The text and illustrations address boys and girls fairly equally, but the content is dated as expected. For example, only men are referred to as athletes, pilots, or engineers; the health benefits of tanning are discussed; and children are advised to "walk like an Indian" for good posture.
