Descripción

The Tent by Dorothy Z. Seymour, an EARLY-START Preschool Reader, was published by Wonder Books(A Division of Grosset & Dunlap, Inc.), New York, in 1965. Not an ex-library copy, this slender, 6" X 6", 48-year-old, 22-page offering is in VG- condition. Still firm and crisp, there is barely noticeable, minimal shelf wear at top and bottom edges of spine. A brief gift message is written, in blue ink, near the top of the front loose end page. The edges of some of text's pages are very lightly browning, and there is a 1/8" X 1/8", light brown spot seen in what would be considered the center of the upper-left quadrant of page 6 of text. From reverse side of Main Title Page, "This popularly priced edition is a [first] reprint in the traditional alphabet of a book originally published for schools in Pitman's Initial Teaching Alphabet". From back cover board, "Message to Parents: Your child can learn to read before he [or she] goes to school. This book was specially designed by leading educators to help you give [them] that early start". And, finally, from reverse side of front loose end page, "Many educators now believe that children as young as three years of age can learn to recognize and read words. Your young child can learn to do so with this EARLY-START Preschool Reader. It tells a story about an everyday situation familiar to all children. Only 15 different words are used to tell the story. These are repeated throughout the book, so that the child soon learns to recognize them and to understand their meaning. The 15 words in this book are: I, led, Ned, to, the, tent, Nell, Dan, Ellen, Bill, Ted, Al, Nan, Nat, and crash. Read this book through with your child a few times. Answer any questions that he [or she] ask about the words in the story. After two or three such readings, [they] will begin to show interest in reading the book by [themselves]." Briefly, the story tells of a number of youngsters who all seem to want to show a friend their tent. The tent becomes crammed with kids, and ends up collapsing down on all of them from stress. The book is chocked full of the charming, distinctive, black and white Drawings (on either white or bright green backgrounds) of Nance Holman. A neat little bit of Americana (functional, too, one would think!) from the mid-sixties. Thank you!!. N° de ref. de la librería 006951
