This Edition is printed upon laid paper of fine quality specially made for The Navarre Society and is strictly limited. The Twenty-two plates are faithfully re-engraved after the originals and are struck upon antique deckle edge handmade paper. Privately Printed For The Navarre Society Limited MCMXXII, 1922. With the original twenty plates and two engraved titles re-engraved. First edition. Original binding. xvii, [vi], 280pp. Cream cloth covered boards, with bumped corners. Spine with gilt titles (a little dulled). Deckled page edges. Clean text and illustrations throughout. The Ten Pleasures Of Marriage And The Second Part, The Confession Of The New Married Couple was written in 1682 and is attributed to Aphra Behn, the dramatist and poet, the first woman to earn her living by her pen. While the pen name for the work is A. Marsh and initials at the end of the letter to the reader, marked A.B. has lead to the assumption that Aphra Behn wrote this work. - Aphra Behn was a prolific dramatist of the English Restoration and was one of the first English professional female writers. Her writing contributed to the amatory fiction genre of British literature. Along with Delarivier Manley and Eliza Haywood, she is sometimes referred to as part of "The fair triumvirate of wit.". Approximately 9 inches tall. Condition Report Externally Spine good condition gilt titles with gilt decoration, bruised top and tail. Joints good condition rubbed and worn. Corners good condition gently bumped and worn. Boards good condition white cloth boards with gilt borders, some fading to the colour compared to the spine, some marks to the front and rear boards. Page edges good condition top edge gilt, fore and bottom edges heavily tanned. See above and photos. Internally Hinges good condition intact. Paste downs good condition plain, lightly tanned. End papers good condition plain, tanned with some offsetting, signature of a previous owner on the front end paper. Title good condition red and black text, lightly tanned with some minor foxing.
