The collection is in good condition, on lightly aged and slightly creased paper. Text of all items clear and entire. Letter One: to Jean-Augustin Barral (12 June 1862, from 33 Rue de Vaugirard, 8vo, 2 pp, 30 lines). He has received 'les premières feuilles de votre notice', and has been prevented from coming to London by 'un rhumatisme articulaire'. On the recto of the second leaf of the bifolium is Barrel's nine-line autograph reply, signed 'J. A. Barrel' and dated 'Londres 16 juin 1862'. Letter Two: to Charles Nodier, prlific author and bibliophile (undated, from 21 Rue de buffon, 8vo, 1 p, 18 lines). He is 'un sincere admirateur' of Nodier's 'beau talent', and is sending a book. Asks him to forward a second copy of the book to Ballanche. Letter Three: to Pierre-Simon Ballanche (undated, from 21 Rue de buffon, 8vo, 1 p, 10 lines). Presenting a copy of a book. Letter Four: to unnamed male correspondent (without date or place, 8vo, 12mo, 9 lines). He is sorry not to be able to send 'le 1er numero', but 'on le demande si frequemment que je vais etre obligé de le rempresser trés probablement', and the recipient will be one of the first to receive a copy. Letter Five: to unnamed male correspondent (in a secretarial hand, undated, on letterhead of the 'Revue Synthétique', 8vo, 1 p, 5 lines). Sending a copy of the first number of the 'Revue', with the proposal that the recipient exchanges it 'contre celui que vous dirigez'. Letter Six: to 'trés excellent confrere' (19 October 1867, on letterhead of 'Cosmos', 8vo, 1 p, 14 lines). Referring to an 'administrateur' and 'aux collections du Cosmos'. Letter Seven: to 'Mon cher monsieur' (10 July 1856, on letterhead of 'L'Ami des Sciences', 8vo, 1 p, 10 lines). Asking the recipient to give the bearer 'un nouvel exemplaire de votre dernière brochure'. Letter Eight: to 'Mon cher monsieur' (10 July 1861, no place, 8vo, 1 p, 7 lines). Asking for the remittance of a sum of money. Letter Nine: to 'Monsieur' (19 January 1876, Choisy (Seine), 8vo, 2 pp, 30 lines). He has received the recipient's letter 'avec infiniment de plaisir'. Gives details of an article about which the recipient has enquired. Letter Ten: to 'Madame' [a female editor] (17 July 1864, 33 Rue de Vaugirard, 8vo, 1 p, 17 lines). He has forgotten when the first number will appear, and has engagements, but asks her to 'comptez absolument sur moi'. He accepts her offer regarding payment. Letter Eleven: to 'Mon cher confrere' (7 October 1865, no place, 8vo, 1 p, 5 lines). Asks the recipient to express his gratitude to 'Monsieur Tramblay'. N° de ref. del artículo 7019
