Descripción

Text/Bright, clean As New. Blue linen boards/Fair; Strong & sound w/rubs & losses to edges, and surface rubs. DJ/None. PO name strike-out to fEP. Following the collapse of the silver market in 1883, the Evening Post of Denver fell into the hands of Harry Heye Tamman (- 1924) (bartender & curio shop proprietor) and Frederick Gilmer Bonfils (1860 - 1933) (real estate & lottery operator). The two renamed the paper and transformed what was a political (Democratic) journal into a vehicle of sensationalism. In 1899 Tammen & Bonfils were shot in their office, survived, and became involved in an equally sensational court case (jury tampering); the year following the two were horsewhipped by another "disapproving" reader and hospitalized. Journalist, writer and dramatist Gene Fowler (1890 - 1960), and, a great storyteller, paints a vivid picture of a historic moment in the chapter of yellow journalism.
