A Amsterdam, Chez François Le Bon, 1720 (Paris, EDHIS, 1970). With 3 folding tables. 4 volumes in 2. (2), 58, 200, (2) pp.; (2), 282, (2) pp.; (2), 270, (2) pp.; (2), 333, (1) pp. 12mo. Imitation of a contemporary binding, raised bands, gilt spine, red label with gilt lettering. Not in Kress; not in Goldsmiths; not in Einaudi; INED 2517; Leblanc, De Thomas More à Chaptal, 38; Masui, p. 406. Well executed reprint of this extremely rare and important work proposing a detailed and comprehensive plan of fiscal reform. The reprint was done in a limited edition of 250 numbered copies and 30 copies not destined for the trade. Precursor of John Law, the author proposes financial and governmental reforms, which remained unnoticed, up to the appearance of A. Callery's Le précuseur de Law (1880) in 'La France judiciaire': 'Au nombre des réformateurs principaux qui, après Boisguillebert et Vauban, se sont occupés de l'amélioration des institutions financières de l'ancienne France, il faut placer La Jonchère . (The Système .) tiré à très petit nombre sans doute, est devenu tellement rare que depuis quinze ans nous n'avons pu nous en procurer un seul exemplaire, et qu'il a manqué à toutes les bibliothèques privées les plus importantes dont les catalogues ont été imprimés depuis le commencement du siècle.''Although De Lajonchère (sic) expressly denies having followed Vauban's 'Dime Royale', he starts from the same initial principle . He advocates one sole tax, to be paid without privilege or exemption, by all Frenchmen without distinction, to consist of a percentage collected in money or in kind, on the general produce of the ground, mines, quarries, etc., by a "Compagnie du Commerce", to be formed for the purpose. This company was to have the monopoly of foreign trade, its shares being given as reimbursement of the price of all the offices sold by the king's predecessors and of the capital of the rents due to towns or individuals. The corn collected by the compagny was also to be enthrusted with the recoinage and "diminuations" of the metallic currency, which were to bring it down to what La Jonchère calls "its intrinsic value"' (Palgrave, i, p. 537).
