Marbled endpapers and full gilt page edges. In very good conditions. Some rubbing to edges and corners, and ends of spines. Some scratches and marks to rear board of vol.1, vol.2 rubbed on front with some large surface chips. Bookplates to endpapers ?Thomas Fraser Grove.? Bookseller labels above ?T.Connolly, Dublin.? Prelims clean and bright, no penned inscriptions to endpapers. Some foxing to engraved titles with some minor staining to bottom edges of plates in vol.1. Small penned inscription to top of engraved title page in vol.1. ?Capt. T.F. Grove, 1865.? Map at front has one minor tear to edge, and one minor split at inner folded corner. Else clean and tidy. One minor pen mark at plates list in vol.1. Some minor darkening to edges of plates, some minor foxing spots. Plates in vol.1. with staining to bottom/side margins. Pages not effected. Else pages clean and tight. Else a very good clean and tight set. 188 & 152pp. 2 engraved title-vignettes. Illustrated with 104 (out of 108) B&W steel-engraved views by W.H. BARTLETT. Large fold out map at front of Vol I. Plates tissue guarded. 4 plates lacking in vol.I: The Montanvert, (replaced with Convent La Madonna Del Sasso from p72) Mount Cervin & Scene in Valley of St. Nicholas p52 & 52, and Tell?s Chapel, p151. Plates bound within text and not at rear of vols.
