Sinopsis: As recipient of the 1997 Pritzker Architecture Prize--the profession's highest honor--Norwegian architect Sverre Fehn has had an impact not only in his home country but around the globe. His projects, often described as being instilled with a human quality, include the Norwegian Pavilion at the 1958 Brussels World Exhibition and the Nordic Pavilion at the 1962 Venice Biennale, the Hamar Bispegaard Museum in Hamar, the Glacier Museum in Fjaerland Fjord, and the Aukrust Museum in Alvdal. Fehn has been strongly influenced by Scandinavia's breathtaking landscape and light conditions. His design sensibility is characterized by a great respect for material and construction. As a professor of long standing at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design, he has distilled his complex creative process, passing his thoughts and philosophies to new generations of architects. This study of Fehn's work provides an intimate glimpse into the world of this great postwar modernist. Author Per Olaf Fjeld presents both biography and perceptive critique as he covers all of Fehn's major projects, built and unbuilt, from world-renowned museums to lesser-known houses. Never-before-published comments by Fehn from lectures, interviews, and conversations with students as well as dynamic sketches are featured, opening a window into the mind of this poetic and personal architect.

Descripción Rizzoli International Publications, Incorporated, New York, New York, U.S.A., 1983. Pictorial Softcover. Estado de conservación: Very Good. Not Given. "This book is like a small village where each building has itas own identity. Directed by inspiration, I have walked the village until the house, the school, the museum, the church and the graveyard have been reralized. With all the roads taken and each place as familiar as my name, my reconstruction of its time is its pattern of light. I have become a native in this village, each building is now part of my home. Architecture is an art geographically dependent. A building belongs to its site. Pictures and drawings along cannot fully communicate the feelings of architecture-of 'room' and its influence upon its inhabitants.Truth begins with a belief in man. To be generous is an act of kindness. I have faced a man with a complete honesty and devotion to his work. The people around him find personal growth through his generosity. For about two uears Sverre Fehn and I have met usually once a week. The meetings occurred at his home around 6:30 in the evening. We first had a cup of coffee before the long chat that could last four to five hours. During these hours, every meeting became a journey into the space of architecture. Common to all our meetings was that they ended with a late supper of bacon, eggs and a beer. Within the quietness of night the day rewound as strength ebbed. These personal talks varied in subject from architecture around the house to the unity of structure within the complexity of urbanism. Each chapter was written independently; when the book was put together, the first meeting became the beginning, and the last thought the ending. Every idea presented is that of Sverre Fehn. I have listened to him speak as if each word were something to remember." This book has 192 pages and is profusely illustrated. The text contains NO internal marks whatsoever. Overall, a VERY GOOD copy of this MOST SCARCE title. Nº de ref. de la librería 060758
