Stated First Edition. Endpieces illustrated with maps. Frontispiece color portrait of Donald A. Smith, 1st Baron Strathcona and Mount Royal. Included in the portraits and discussion are John Galt and his son. Original blue cloth with gilt lettering on front cover and spine. No DJ. Text richly illustrated, several full page plates, some in color, and 3 foldout maps. Good condition. Boards bear some edgewear. Page are remarkably tight and clean. Tall 8vo. 423 pages including bibliography and index. John Murray Gibbon (1875 -1952) was a Scottish Canadian writer and cultural promoter. He was born in Ceylon and educated at Aberdeen, Oxford, and Göttingen universities. Gibbon emigrated to Canada in 1913 to work for the Canadian Pacific Railway. In 1921 he became founding president of the Canadian Authors Association. His work came to have a major impact on the creation of a bilingual, multicultural, national culture. Size: Tall 8vo.
