G+. 1st Thus. 24.5cm By 17cm. In this biography photographer and writer set out to retrace, after 400 years, the journying of St Ignatius from northern Spain to as far east as Palestine and eventually to Rome. History recalls St Ignatius as the founder of the order of the Society of Jesus, but this study is of the man, his travels and his works. Exquisite b/w photography by Von Matt of scenery, achitecture, sculpture, art works and historic documents set this book apart for their excellence, which is complement by equally impressive text. Translated from the German original. 226 full page plates, plus 106 text pages including index of illustration locations, persons and things index. Cream hard covers with gilt front decoration, spine titles, light browning, mainly to spine, front corners bumped, but VG, Catholic Maori Mission stamp FFEP and RFEP, also neatly inked top corner FFEP, impressed dealer stamp lower cornet, text block excellent. B/w pictorial DJ small tear top front adjacent spine, light edgewear, few chips, creases. 24.5cm by 17cm. N° de ref. de la librería 001947
