First published in 1957, this second impression of that edition containes a number of corrections "while the opportunity has been taken to mention certain important new developments which have taken place since this book was first written", says a note to the second impression. In seven chapters the book defines sports cars, their origins in Europe. the years following World War One, later vintage years, the American sports car, the 1930s and the post- WWII era. In a postscript the author says that the the past 10 years had seen motoring developments "more rapid and more interesting than those of any other period since the decade 1895 to 1905." This is an important record of the design and development of the sports car over more than 60 years. Second impression of 1959, 224 pages including index, 60+ b/w photos plus 35 full page excellent b/w drawings by John Dunscombe of sports cars through the years (101 illustrations in all). Blue hard covers are VG with few unobtrusive spots both boards, gilt front decoration and spine titles, the latter lightly sunned, ink inscription top corner FFEP, small/neat ink name top corner half title, text block otherwise excellent.
