This general survey of Egyption culture and civilisation certainly made an impact on those interested in the subject --- first published in 1949, a second impression followed in that year, others in 1950, '51, '54 and this in '57. There are six sections to the survey --- Prehistory; History; Social Conditions; Religion: Art and Science and Language and Literature. The book is dedicated to Flinders Petrie who the author credits with creating "the science of archaeology" and her final chapter gives a brief outline of his life and achievements. 354 pages including four appendices, list of kings, bibliography, index, colour frontis, 97 b/w plates, photos and drawings (some multi illustrations), 24 line drawings in text, e/paper maps. Brick hard covers with gilt spine titles, VG+ with few spots. trace wear spine extremities, corners, neatly inked name top blank FFEP, speckle foxing few early/late pages, text block otherwise excellent.
