A privately produced album in black quater leather with gilt titling to front board, containing 12 large photographs 11.5 x 9ins [29 x 22cm] mounted to the facing page only. some wear and rubbing to leather, front hinge somewhat sweak but genrally sound, the photographs as clean and bearing blind stamp of Russell & Sons of Windsor lower right. Dhanjibhoy Bomanji was a vey wealthy and well connected Parsee shipping magnate who, with his wife the former Frenny Asrdeshir of Poona, lived in grand mansions at The Willows in Windsor. Pineheath in Harrogate, and Firdaus in Poona. The photographs mark an occasion two years after the end of the First World War when the Bomanjis were entertaining veterans with their friends Princess Alice and her husband the Earl of Athlone, General Carteret-Carey and others. Photographs show general view of the Willows with bunting and flags; a military band in service dress [Household Cavalry]; 2 views of dining room laid for luncheon for twelve; the guests at table; march past of children; veterans in wheel chairs, march past of veterans; veterans being addressed by the general; the platform party; meeting the veterans; the Bomanjis with thier principal guests. The Bomanjis had made large contributions to the war effort and Dhanjibhoy was Vice President of the King Edward VII Hospital in Windsor and founder of the British Legion Club in Windsor [established with his gift of £5000]. In 1923 he presented Edinburgh with the magnificent bronze equestrian statue of Field Marshal Earl Haig displayed still outdside Edinburgh Castle. Born in 1863 he was knighted by George V in 1922. He made huge chaitable contributions in Bombay and founded Zooroastrian House in London. Thw Willows was once owned by the Duke of Sutherland. Size: Oblong Quarto [15 x 11ins].
