Descripción ReInk Books, 2017. Softcover. Estado de conservación: NEW. Reprinted from edition. NO changes have been made to the original text. This is NOT a retyped or an ocr'd reprint. Illustrations, Index, if any, are included in black and white. Each page is checked manually before printing. As this reprint is from very old book, there could be some missing or flawed pages, but we always try to make the book as complete as possible. Fold-outs, if any, are not part of the book. If the original book was published in multiple volumes then this reprint is of only one volume, not the whole set. This paperback book is SEWN, where the book block is actually sewn (smythe sewn/section sewn) with thread before binding which results in a more durable type of paperback binding. It can also be open wide. The pages will not fall out and will be around for a lot longer than normal paperbacks. This print on demand book is printed on high quality acid-free paper. Descripción Bethany Press, 1959. Hardback w/dust jacket, 121 pages, dj frayed/torn/worn, some pencil & ink notations and underlining, good condition. "Here is a refreshing and penetrating analysis of racial strife, written by a white Southerner who is also a Baptist minister and a professor. The structure of America's race tension becomes disarmingly clear in these pages - as does the concept that basic Christian principles are the tools to combat that tension.". Descripción Estado de conservación: Good ex-lib. orig. gray cloth. `Since neither the white man nor the Negro is native to America, this is the "white man's country" only by virtue of his numerical and economic supremacy. There were white men in America only a little more than a hundred and twenty-five years before the first Negroes were brought here. The white man case as a conqueror, and made the land his. The Negro came as a servant, and the white man has never been willing to grant him full rights of citizenship.' (p. 15) -- `The concept of subordination to white people has never been accepted by all Negroes. It may well be that for [Booker T.] Washington's day the kind of education which he advocated was best suited to the needs of most Negroes. But to close the door to any other kind of education for any Negro was a backward step.' (p. 23) -- `His race is no basis for his claim to a better seat, or to priority at the ticket-window or in the store. It is no basis for taking his word against that of another person who happens to be a Negro. Not only is it no basis for better waiting rooms, it is no basis for separate waiting rooms. A Christian should never seek these. Because of the culture in which he lives he may be accorded them, but he should have a troubled conscience in receiving them.' (p. 107).
