Sogetsu is a modern Japanese school of flower arrangement in which the first master, Teshigahara Sofu, and the second master, Hiroshi, collaborated with avant-garde artists and held exhibitions and performances in a space they created called the Sogetsu Art Center.Sofu also collaborated with Informel painters from Japan, the U.S., and Europe, as well as GUTAI artists from Japan. In the 1960s, world-famous artists such as Toru Takemitsu, Yoko Ono, John Cage, and Nam June Paik performed there, and the space was also the site of the Japanese Experimental Film Festival, which produced many leading Japanese contemporary artists.
