[From English text] A March into Future ?A greeting on the occasion of the Sixth Art Exhibition of the Republic of China ? by Feng Kuo-kuang. Since the dawn of man's history, Chinese artists have distinguished themselves with their outstanding wisdom. They have brilliantly displayed their rare talent. Every objec+ of art in China in the past 3,000 years since the times of the Bronze Age Yin Dynasty has its unique characteristics, and as such, has been admired the world over. Chinese art, as a matter of fact, has played a vitally important role in the history of world art. The everlasting glory of Chinese culture is due in large part to the accomplishments of its prominent artists. To preserve this tradition of Chinese culture and help artists give full play to their outstanding talent, the Ministry of Education has, since the establishment of the Republic of China, sponsored five national art exhibitions. The first three were held in Shanghai, Nanking and the wartime capital of Chungking. The last two took place in Taipei, Taiwan. The Sixth Art Exhibition of the Republic of China, however, is the first ever to be opened on Fine Arts Day and to be sponsored by the National Taiwan Art Museum. Of great significance are the timing of the exhibition and tie fact that Madame Chiang Kai-shek serves as its honorary chairman. The year 1971 marks the 60th founding anniversary of the Republic If China. All this cannot fail to have a lasting and far-reaching effect upon the future of Chinese art. Since the Republic was proclaimed after the toppling of the Manchu monarchy, China has in the past 59 years lived a fast-changing time, which has spawned and fostered new thoughts.
