Fondation Égyptologique Reine Élisabeth, Bruxelles, 1996. 108p. Sewn. Signature on half title. Series: Papyrologica Bruxellensia, 3. (Rare). ?This book is a useful addition to the Brussels series of monographs on papyrological subjects. In it the author examines in great detail the evidence for corn distribution to servants employed on the estates of the dioceses Apollonius, concerning himself solely with those allocations of corn, flour or bread, which were issued regularly and in sufficient quantity to meet the daily needs of the recipient. The questions he seeks to answer are the amount issued, the extent of and reason for the allocation of different amounts, and the nutritional value of the various rations. The examination of these questions occupies pages 18-69, and results in a number of interesting conclusions. (?) To this is appended a long list of the servants recorded as recipients of corn rations in the Zenon archive (pp.70-97). (?) It is particularly helpful in identifying, and occasionally solving, the problems caused by the many homonymous persons found in our sources. Reekmans has studied the relevant papyrological texts closely and is often able to add to our understanding of them (?) A list of documents critically examined is to be found in one of the excellent indexes with which the book is provided. The study is admirably succinct, though sometimes possibly a little too brief. (? ) With this word of caution the book may be warmly commended. It is a good example of the value of a detailed examination of a relatively minor topic in providing a firmer basis on which more wide-ranging studies can be based.? (J. DAVID THOMAS in Revue belge de philologie et d?histoire, 1968, pp.87-88). Antiquarian. N° de ref. de la librería 35649

Descripción de la librería: Scrinium Classical Antiquity, member of the Dutch Association of Antiquarian Booksellers (NVvA - ILAB), stands for a specialized stock of new, secondhand and antiquarian books about Classical Antiquity. The main theme of our books is Classical Antiquity: texts and commentaries, translations, archeology, philosophy, travel, history, mythology, books for young people, philology, law, reception of classical motives in Middle Ages, Renaissance and our own time and neo-Hellenika (conptemporary Greece), and many more subjects. A more modest quantity of our books concerns countries, civilisations and religious movements on the edges of the classical world: e.g. Egypt, Middle East and Early Christianity. New books are partly in stock, partly to be ordered from publishers. We are connected to a large number of publishers and distributors, established both in the Netherlands and abroad.
