Sir Hornbook; or, Childe Launcelot's Expedition. A Grammatico-Allegorical Ballad.
First edition, first issue, Square 16mo., 8 lithograph plates, some light foxing and light usage, 29, (3)pp., in original printed semi stiff wrappers, just light usage, as issued. The exceptionally rare first issue of the first of two anonymous books for children written by the novelist and poet Thomas Love Peacock (1785-1866). Before writing any of his satirical novels, Peacock wrote this whimsical poem allegorically teaching the rules of grammar by verse. It was also the first Children's book to be illustrated by the use of Lithographs. This first issue was of only 500 copies and had the error of "THE NDE" at the end of page 29. The plates are dated "1 June 1813". N° de ref. de la librería 16303
