This was Part Five of William Smith's "Principia Latina" series of books to aid scholars in Latin, particularly "for the use of the Middle Forms in Public and Private Schools," In the selection of Short Tales and Anecdotes, 95 in all, important Latin words are listed as foonotes to assist students in the re-translation process. 96 pages followed by 16 pages of "Mr Murray's List of School Books." The title page verso lists William Smith's books of his Latin and Greek courses. Light brown hard covers with impressed front titles/borders VG with few spots, light wear corners, spine extremities, gilt spine titles faded with lower 4cms of spine a flap with the seperation at rear hinge, front board slightly loose with cracked gutter, yellow e/papers, text block excellent with few neat underlinings confined to earliest pages, water mark at margins rear e/papers only.
