"This history was compiled over ther last five years in the scant leisure hours of a busy life that did not leave enough time for serious study, and less for scholarly research. It makes no claim to perfection. It is an attempt to exhibit the chequered story of Shakopee in miniature and, by relating it to the histoy of our state, nation and the world, make it a part of recorded history, the 'record and defies the tooth of time. In writing this history I have been guided by the precepts of two great men, Pope Leo XIII and my history professor, Dr. Guy Stanton Ford, Dean of the Graduate School and, later, President of the University of Minnesota. Pope Leo, in his letter SAEPENUMERO CONSIDERANTES, wrote: 'The first law of history is never to dare to say anything false; and then never not to say the truth.' Each year in his opening lecture at the Univeristy of Minnesota, Dean Ford used to say: 'We study history to know the past, understand the present and foresee the future. When we have studied, and this mastered, never color or detract from the truth because history needs no apologists.' Spending one's entire life in and being part of Shakopee has not made the fulfillment of these two injunctions easy, but I have honestly tried to follow both directives. This history was written for the ordonary reader, in the main, interested in history but uninterested in source material, and no attempt has been mader to resolve contradictory archival material, but full source material is cited at the end of each chapter for the searching and inquiring mind." This book has 772 pages and is profusely illustrated. The text contains NO internal marks whatsoever. Overall, this is a FINE copy with FINE dustjacket of this MOST SCARCE title. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. N° de ref. de la librería 065381
