Auction catalogue for a copy of William Shakespeare's First Folio, an historically important book as the first collected edition of his plays, published in London in 1623, seven years after his death. The cover of the First Folio bore an engraved portrait of the playwright that became a famous image. The contents ran to approximately 900 pages, containing 36 plays. At the time of the auction, Sotheby's described it as "the most important book in English literature." The book came from the London library established by the Rev. Dr. Daniel Williams, who bought the book in the early 1700s, and still had its original 17th-century calfskin binding. 750 copies were printed, but there are only about 40 known complete copies of the book in existence. This copy sold on July 13, 2006, for $5.2 million. Condition: Contents very good. Covers and dust jacket very good with the usual overall light toning, wear, handling. Shipping and handling: $12.
