Professor Jannie Louw received his medical education at the University of Cape Town where he graduated in 1938 and obtained the Master of Surgery degree with honours in 1946. In 1945, after five years war service, he joined the staff of the department of surgery at UCT and in 1955 he was appointed professor of surgery.
